Q: Will the monsters be restricted to Thayan/Rashemi sorts, or will we be seeing some of the missing core monsters [Owlbears and Minotaurs, for example]? Obsidian: We originally wanted to add owlbears. But when we learned that D&D owlbears are supposed to be quadrupeds, we weren't as excited about them. The owlbears in our minds, from our childhood days of D&D, walked around upright. So we made some other creatures instead. =)
All of the creatures we're adding are appropriate to the setting, but many are core D&D creatures. For example, hags, treants, and shambling mounds all appear in Rashemen but are classic D&D creatures.
Q: Will the current monsters receive any additional appearances/tintability functions? So we can have armoured ogre chieftains, albino bugbears in chain or leather, greater mummies clad in the rags of a high priest, and so on?
Obsidian: We've done some of this, yes. For example, we made a new gnoll appearance for the gnolls employed by Thay, which are somewhat more civilized than your stereotypical gnoll.
Q: Are you trying to fill the monsters missing from the NWN repertoire or are you concentrating on new critters?
We tried to do both, of course! I'd say that we added more classic D&D creatures than specific ones for just NX1. We also added some general use creatures like a panther. We did add a couple special critters, too.
Q: Will there be any Obsidian-grown Epic Monsters in the Expansion? And by Obsidian-grown I mean ones not found in the Epic Manual. Also, will there be more Obsidian-grown ones than Epic Manual ones?
Obsidian: Not really. That is, we didn't invent any new D&D creatures, per se. We do have some creatures that aren't exactly in D&D, but that are very D&D consistent. For example, we created a new type of stone golem that's not like the typical Monster Manual one.
